Synopsis of Chamber Opera, Healing

Program
Notes:
The
chamber opera, Healing, is based on a libretto by
Chris Willerton. Setting: A large hospital in Syracuse, NY, in
November 1910. Dr. Alison James, a surgeon in her late thirties,
battles bureaucracy, male prejudice, death and suffering in a
personal struggle to find meaning and purpose.

22, 1996 - Premiére performance of "Everything" (mezzo aria from
chamber opera Healing) during Fourth Festival of
Women Composers International at Indiana University of Pennsylvania
in Indiana, PA..
- March
6, 1993 - Premiére performance of ""I Have Seen," a bass aria from
the in progress chamber opera, Healing, by Charles
Nelson on the Abilene Composer's Concert at Hardin-Simmons University.
A performance of the bass aria ""I
Will Arise" was also presented on the same concert.
- October
2, 1986 - Performance of I Will Arise by Charles
Nelson during a Recital of Original Works by Sally Reid
at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX.
- September,
1986 - Premiére performance of I Will Arise (piano
reduction) by Charles Nelson, basso.
