Healing

based on a libretto by Chris Willerton

CHARACTERS

DR. ALISON JAMES (mezzo-soprano): Surgeon. Tall, dark-haired, in late thirties. Attractive in an imperious way.

PRESIDENT MELROSE (baritone): Hospital president. Medium height, mid-fifties. Suave, ambitious, devoted to the "Old Boy" system of hiring personnel.

TOBY (tenor): Comical orderly. Could be twentyish or middle-aged.

JOHN SKYE (bass): Patient. Early sixties. A retired businessman (and Spanish-American war veteran) who got his start in Montana, he loves to startle New York acquaintances with remarks out of the Wild West. A man of gusto and intelligence, he makes a restless patient.

DR. WILLIAM DuPont (baritone): Surgeon. Likes to display his blue blood and cultivated tastes.

HEAD NURSE (soprano): Middle-aged. Kind, efficient, impatient with bureaucracy.
