Gabriel Cometh

for trumpet in C and tape

by Sally Reid, composer, ASCAP
Program Notes:

Gabriel Cometh combines an exploration of the range and expressive qualities of the instrument with an approachable introduction to the electro-acoustic genre.

Tape and soloist share some common motives, but the tape is allowed the more undiscipllined flourishes and expression. Live events are articulated by musical gestures on the tape. The specific order of taped events, while important, is subordinate to the creation of a sound environment in which the solo line is allowed to unfold.

This work was originally synthesized on an AlphaSyntauri digital synthesizer (a multi-timbral Apple ][e based system). The final realization combines Yamaha TX series sound modules with a few original AlphaSyntauri voices.
