Gabriel Cometh
for trumpet in C and tape

Program Notes:
Gabriel Cometh combines an exploration of the range
and expressive qualities of the instrument with an approachable
introduction to the electro-acoustic genre.
Tape and soloist share some common motives, but the tape is allowed
the more undiscipllined flourishes and expression. Live events
are articulated by musical gestures on the tape. The specific
order of taped events, while important, is subordinate to the
creation of a sound environment in which the solo line is allowed
to unfold.
This work was originally synthesized on an AlphaSyntauri digital
synthesizer (a multi-timbral Apple ][e based system). The final
realization combines Yamaha TX series sound modules with a few
original AlphaSyntauri voices.

at McMurry College.
- March 6, 1990 - Performance of Gabriel Cometh
on the New Music Texas concert at the Center for Experimental
Music and Intermedia (CEMI) at the University of North Texas.
- March 6, 1990 - Performance of Gabriel Cometh
on a program sponsored by the North/South Consonance Ensemble
in New York City.
- February, 1990 - Performance of Gabriel Cometh
on the annual Abilene Composers Concert sponsored by the Sigma
Alpha Iota Alumnae Chapter at Hardin-Simmons University.
- April, 1989 - Performance of Gabriel Cometh
at the national conference of the Society of Composers held at
the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS.
- April, 1989 - Performance of Gabriel Cometh
on the Texas Christian University New Music Festival.
- December, 1988 - Performance of Gabriel Cometh
by the Wilkes College Contemporary Music Ensemble, Wilkes-Barre,
PA, on their 1988-1989 concert series.
- March, 1988 - Performance of Gabriel Cometh
at the Festival of Texas Composers, a triennial invitational
concert series sponsored by the Texas Federation of Music Clubs
at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX.
- January, 1987 - Premiére performance of Gabriel
Cometh by John Daniel at Abilene Christian University.
