The Eagle is Born to Soar

by Sally Reid, composer, ASCAP

Program Notes:

This composition was an early study by the composer (1980) exploring the capabilities of the early monophonic analog synthesizers. Sound elements were combined through splicing and multi-track recording techniques. It is possible for the listener to project an "eagle" into the work, but the composition has no other programmatic intent. The Eagle is Born to Soar explores spatial modulation and demonstrates the interaction and metamorphosis of three simple motives.

The work was originally realized for quadraphonic tape (and now exists in a stereo version). It was written in honor of the late Dr. E. Edwin Young, longtime Dean of the Hardin-Simmons School of Music.
