Sally Reid, composer, ASCAP

 

Composer Sally Reid was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, in 1948. She holds the Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Professor of Music at Abilene Christian University where she served for eleven years as Department Chair. Reid was editor of the ILWC Journal (International League of Women Composers) from 1991-1995.

Dr. Reid has received annual ASCAP awards since 1987. She was named a Faculty of the Year (1990-91, ACU College of Liberal and Fine Arts), an Outstanding Educator (1995-96, ACU College of Arts and Sciences) and received an Innovative Use of Technology in Teaching award (1995, ACU Center for Teaching Excellence). Her Fiuggi Fanfare (for saxophone quintet) won First Prize during the Fifth International Festival of Women Composers at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in March 1998.

Her compositions have been performed by North/South Consonance, Composers Concordance, Synchronia, New Music Now! and Opus 90, and have been included in broadcast series in Alabama, Michigan, Australia, and on the Texas Composers Forum's Texas Composers Today. Her works are published by Hildegard Publishing, Southern Music and Elm Creek Music.
